Lawrence Meat Packing and its Butcher Block stores have been providing high-quality, local and Canadian-raised meat products to Dawson Creek for nearly 75 years. In fact most of its meat comes from within a 100-mile radius. It is cut, processed and packaged locally. The family-owned-and-operated business takes pride in carrying the same tradition of personalized service and high standards of quality which Joe and Irene Lafond were reputed for. Lawrence Meat Packing and the Butcher Block prepare and sell a wide assortment of beef, pork, chicken and seafood products, including fresh, frozen and smoked meats as well as many varieties of ham, bacon, and sausage, made fresh on site, from scratch. It also stocks an extensive selection of gourmet accompaniments like barbecue sauce, specialty jellies, cheese and condiments. The Butcher Block boasts two retail locations: its original store in Dawson Creek and its newest location in Fort. St. John.

Lawrence Meat Packing Co. is a member of the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce.

Meet The Lafond Family & Jerry Lafond

Dan Strasky and his wife, Tracy, speak proudly of the family business that they and other family members operate together. Tracy is the granddaughter to Joe Lafond, the original Lafond who bought into the company in 1944. Glover Lawrence had started the business in 1938 in Rolla and moved it to Dawson Creek. It has been part of the Lafond family ever since. Joe assisted in its daily operation until he passed away at 92 years of age. Joe and his wife Irene handed the reins to their children, Jerry, Maurice and Paula who operated the business for decades and have recently retired. The third generation now joins forces, led by Dan Strasky, to maintain Joe’s business philosophies.

The Lafond family and their incredible staff enjoy working together and are committed to both the quality of the meat that they prepare as well as the relationships they have established with their suppliers and customers. The Butcher Block was founded on the old fashioned principle of personalized service, which they refuse to compromise, even with the growing competition from multi-national companies. Dan knows that their customers recognize and appreciate this. He also notes that some of their retail customers have been loyal shoppers since Joe ran the business back in the 1940’s.

The entire Lafond family is immensely grateful for the incredible support that their customers have given them throughout the years. They love Dawson Creek, and that support has allowed them to continue living in the region, providing quality products and in turn supporting the local farmers. Keeping the food production local from the pastures to the table ensures product superiority and freshness, a growing concern for the health conscious consumer.
