Meet Wendie Murray & Lisa Thacher

When Wendie Murray first moved to Dawson Creek in the early 1990s, she began working in the bar business. She eventually worked her way up to management, and she always enjoyed the work and the many new people that she was able to meet. In fact, she often thought that it would be fun to own her own bar, so when the opportunity came up in 2012 to open Spike's Pub, she and friend Lisa Thacher decided to go for it. Both Wendie and Lisa are now enjoying the challenges and the rewards of business ownership in an industry that they both love. In fact, says Wendie, "Every day brings a new challenge. There is always something to promote, fix, order, counsel, listen to and for. Our days are full, making sure that customers and staff know that they are a valuable part of business." Lisa and Wendie are proud of their staff members who, they agree, are an integral part of the business and are committed to making their guests feel welcome and have a good time.

Lisa and Wendie both appreciate small town life, and Dawson Creek, in particular, has much to offer its residents. They assert that Dawson Creek has many wonderful amenities, services and civic groups that enrich and enhance community life. Wendie points to Rotary Lake and Pioneer Village as two prime examples. Lisa and Wendie also add that, for those who want to get away and enjoy the great outdoors, it only takes a few minutes to leave town and be in the "wilderness."

Wendie and Lisa note that Dawson Creek has "grown by leaps and bounds" over the last couple of decades, a sign that there are amazing things happening here. "I think Dawson Creek's future is bright," Wendie says. "Dawson Creek is growing every day. We have a great community that supports new businesses," including small, independent ones. Some of their favourites include Baked Cafe, Software Emporium and B & T Ceramics.
