Meet Janet Stevens

Janet Stevens used to own a business in Nanaimo, BC on Vancouver Island. She enjoyed her work, but business ownership was demanding, and so time away became an important part of her life. Remembering how much getting away from the stresses of everyday life meant to her back in those days inspired her to open Risingmoon Bed and Breakfast. She wanted to provide that same kind of getaway for other busy people seeking peace and tranquility. She had the perfect property for it, located on Swan Lake, and felt that the setting was just too beautiful not to share with others. Swan Lake, Janet notes, is home to many common and rare species of wildfowl and birds. In addition to its human guests, the property also plays host to a variety of wildlife, which adds to the magic and allure of the resort. Janet feels blessed to be able to enjoy this unique perspective on wildlife every single day.

Living in a small rural area has many benefits, not the least of which is the power of word-of-mouth advertising. Many of her guests refer others, and many also return themselves for subsequent visits. Another thing that makes small town living fulfilling is the ability to develop relationships easily. "People are not afraid to wave and greet each other or offer assistance," Janet says. "It is totally different from city living. The people here are friendly, supportive and helpful."

Janet loves hosting her guests and feels privileged to be able to earn an income doing something that gives her so much joy and fulfillment. She is proud of the fact that she has been able to provide an affordable means for people to get away and get connected with nature. She works at keeping prices within reach so that people can continue to come and have an idyllic getaway in this amazing place.
