South Peace Grain was first formed in 1963 in response to a growing local and regional demand for seed cleaning services. Its formation was spearheaded by a group of local farmers, and today it continues to be operated by and on behalf of its farmer-members. As a local business, it is proud to serve and to do business with other local businesses.

The kind of cooperation that it takes to maintain an operation like South Peace Grain is characteristic of the community at large, according to Co-op representative Jocelyn Shuman. "We enjoy the sense of community and partnership that working together to make our small town a better place for everyone to live builds," she says. Plus, in Dawson Creek, "you always know that someone will be there to lend a helping hand should you need it."

Jocelyn notes that the entrepreneurial spirit is strong among South Peace Grain's staff and Board of Directors at South Peace Grain. "We all want to help our entire agricultural community grow and expand while working with other businesses and companies to build a tight-knit system of resources and connections," says Jocelyn. Collaborating together for a specific purpose is always rewarding for them. "We love seeing the result of our ideas and hard work come to fruition," she states. More than anything else, though, what gives staff and members the most satisfaction is watching customers walk away with smiles on their faces.
